About GRAMOFON
The idea for GRAMOFON originated during the Corona lockdown in winter 2020/2021 when neither concerts nor rehearsals were possible and a sense of isolation spread. In this situation, the Indo-German pianist and composer Jarry Singla developed the vision of creatively communicating with his audience – i.e. with YOU - via an interactive player.
Jarry composed musical miniatures for piano, prepared piano, Indian harmonium and percussive instruments. The fragments are mainly inspired by South Indian rhythm, North Indian ragas and Messiaen modes, but also by European harmony.
In combination with beautiful designs by the artist Irma Stolz, they have been uploaded into the interactive player on this website. The player gives you the possibility to create your own compositions by combining the fragments freely in several tracks. Five composing-games of different musical character are available. The URL displays your results at any time. By sharing the URL via e-mail, Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, you are welcome to let your friends know whatever you created with GRAMOFON.
The implementation of GRAMOFON was made possible by generous funding from the Kunststiftung NRW and the NRW Kultursekretariat.
Please feel free to give any kind of feedback regarding GRAMOFON! We are very interested in your opinion.
JARRY SINGLA
